The Spanish empire was one of the largest empires in history and its own personal rise to power would coincide with the transition of power from the Asian continent to the European world. As colonial possessions lead to unprecedented wealth and conflicts between Spain and other European nations escalated the ensuing friction would further anti-Spanish sentiment, this escalation in anti-Spanish sentiment would further lead to the creation of the Black Legend that has characterized history in regards to Spanish presence in colonial Latin America.

Competition is something that has run in my blood since I can remember. I have gone against the grain of what a normal female gender role entails, I have been very competitive in all aspect of my life, starting when I was younger with a co-ed baseball team, which blossomed into playing for a girls fast pitch league, and eventually becoming the first female (and youngest) umpire that the suburban Chicagoland area ever had. It wasnt enough for me just to be an umpire, though, as I felt that if I was going to do it, I was going to be the best; and I did exactly that. I took the time to get my nationally recognized certification, and I worked my way up the ranks. I also took part in other male dominated activities, such as cross country fox hunting on horseback. These are just two of the many examples of my outright competitive nature that is an obvious part of my everyday personality.

The responsibilities of teachers include teaching effectively by considering the individual students needs in their classroom and using different instructional strategies as appropriate. In addition, teachers should be capable of organizing and connecting ideas and subjects. It is essential that teachers master the art of classroom management, as well as motivational and communication skills. The teacher should think about his or her students abilities when planning weekly lessons so that he or she may prepare materials and activities in accordance with his or her students abilities. While teachers are largely responsible for their students education, there are some aspects of education which are beyond the teachers capabilities. Parents expect teachers to make their children intelligent.

Moral ambiguity is a central theme in John Hustons film The Maltese Falcon (1941) and in Billy Wilders film Double Indemnity (1944) and James M. Cains novel by the same title. The films and novel follow characters whose motives are questionable and morally problematic. This essay will discuss these characters motives, the effect of the motives on the message and plot of the films and novel, and how noir filming techniques help to portray moral ambiguity. Complex ideas such as What is moral, what is morality? are shown in these films with complex cinematic setups. This essay will also show how the message of Wilders film Double Indemnity differs from the message of Cains novel Double Indemnity.

In her article Women in Film Noir Janey Place states that women characters in noir films are divided into two archetypes: the spider woman, the evil seductress who tempts man and brings about his destruction and the virgin, the mother, the innocent, the redeemer. This essay will examine and interpret the construction of three female characters in three noir films in terms of the visual motifs used in the presentation of the characters actions and dialogue. The characters examined will be Laura (Gene Tierney) in the film Laura (1944), Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck) in the film Double Indemnity (1944), and Kathie Moffat (Jane Greer) in the film Out of the Past (1947). Does Places judgment hold true for these three characters? Can these characters be divided into two archetypes? This essay will show that Laura, Phyllis, and Kathie embody at times both of Places archetypeseach character changes from innocent virgin to spider woman. And it will be shown how these characterizations are achieved using cinematic techniques. Laura, however, is the only character of the three films to change back to innocent virgin by the end of the narrative.

The films Out of the Past, Force of Evil, and Double Indemnity are narratives that contain similar noir themes. All three narratives follow troubled male characters who must sever ties with their pasts in order to move forward to a hopeful and happy future. Two of these characters succeed, morally, and one fails. This essay will explore noir techniques in these three films and will postulate why the two characters are redeemed while the third character remains ruined.

A collection of analysis of recent tax news, here is an excerpt from one of them:
There are some US cities and states that already have levied taxes on soft drinks and junk foods. Money is exchanging hands in this "taxing" process, but what is the point? This tax would simply make the government richer. The heart of the problem is not really being addressed: how to minimize the tax burden on society, yet at the same time provide quality healthcare, sustain environmental quality

Throughout The Jilting of Granny Weatherall, Katherine Anne Porter makes Granny sound like she has not done poorly for herself. In reading the first couple of paragraphs of the short story, Porter makes it known that Granny doesnt have it easy. Life is hard on her. On the surface, there is a woman who thinks that she hasnt done so terribly for herself considering the hardships in her life, but there is definitely more underneath. Looking more into the Grannys life, the truth emerges from below the top layers. Porter uses events like jilting at the altar, the early death of her husband, the death of Hapsy, and getting no sign from God on her deathbed to show the disappointments in her life.

1. The Alarm. Number V is the last of a series of five topical essays published by Hampden, Pseudonym, in 1773. Each of the five essays was published in the month of October. Number V, like the prior Hampden essays, was published in New York, only once, and in only one edition. This is one of a number of pamphlets, folios, advertisements, and broadsides that were published in the Colonies prior to the culmination of the American Revolution. This publication comes after Great Britains imposed Proclamation of 1763, the Stamp Act (1765), the Declaratory Act (1766) and the Townshend Acts (1767) on the Colonies. As these Acts were issued by Great Britain, publications by authorssuch as Benjamin Franklin, John Dickinson, and the Sons of Libertyattempted to help repeal the Acts and spread awareness amongst the Americans in general.
