Résumé :
In 1996, southwest airlines was a very successful and profitable low-cost airline company, operating in southeastern US markets. After entering the Florida market, the company had to face the following strategic challenges : how to keep their market share and sustain the company's profitability while competing with all the northeastern airlines, in a highly competitive area ?
To answer these challenges and find new strategic alternatives for southwest airlines, we studied first the external environment of the company, to see what was their position and relations with the different players on this market . Then we analyzed southwest airlines' internal environment, such as its main resources and capabilities in order to define the core competencies they could rely on to face their strategic challenges ; Finally, we determined what were the strategic alternatives they had, which would help them maintain their successful position on the US market
