Founded in 1924, tesco is the largest supermarket chain in Great Britain and the most profitable, which sells food and non-food items. It now controls just over 30% of the grocery market in the UK. In 2007, it announced over £2.55 billion in profits.
It possesses approximately 1880 sale points throughout united-Kingdom, they include : Extras stores, Superstores, Metro stores and Express stores.
In recent years it has diversified its offer, it sells non-food products, such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, information technology, optics, video TV, household travel...
It offers also several financial services : insurance, loans, savings, credit cards.
For few years tesco has expanded in newer geographical market, it is now present at the International with
-261 stores in Europe over 6 countries : 82 in Ireland, 69 in Poland, 60 in Hungary, 23 in Slovakia, 22 in the Czech Republic and 5 in Turkey
-179 in Asia : in Japan , 64 Thailand, 28 in South Korea, 5 in Malaysia and 4 in Taiwan
It has its own online site where customers can make their purchases and where tesco provides information about itself.
