On September 9th 1976 came the death of perhaps the most influential and feared leader in the history of the modern world. As visionary and well regarded as any Pope, and as reviled and hated as much as Hitler, there is no questioning the enormous influence that Chairman Mao has had on China.
Chairman Mao, or Mao Zedong, was the leader of the Chinese Communist Party for over 40 years, and was responsible for some of the biggest changes within the countrys history. It is nearly 30 years since his death, yet his influence is still felt in all areas of modern Chinese life. Despite this, unless you have studied communism or Chinese history, you probably know little about him, or the events that occurred under his reign. Maos life is one of historical significance, great endeavour, and tragic mistakes.

China in the mid-20th century was a country full of change. The country was transitioning from the rule of the nationalist KMT party to the communist CCP party. This change did not come easily and millions of lives were affected by it. Spider Eaters by Rae Yang is a memoir written about growing up at this time. Rae is especially qualified for this task due to the fact that she experienced the revolution from more than one perspective. Over the course of her life, Rae transforms from a little girl growing up in a life of privilege, to a young woman working in the countryside, and finally becoming a woman disillusioned by the communist regime.

Xu Beihong (1895-1953) was a native of Yixing in Jiangsu Province. His father, from whom he learned painting in his childhood, was also a painter. At the age of 20, Xu went to Shanghai to sell his paintings. In 1918, at the invitation of Cai Yuanpei, he went to Peking University to work as an instructor at the Painting Research Society and started to learn Western artistic skills there. The next year, as many of his counterparts, he went to Europe to study Western art: he arrived in Paris then moved to Berlin and Belgium.
Back in China a decade later, he provided his own synthesis of Eastern and Western arts based on Western classical realist painting so as to regenerate Chinese painting. As that time as nowadays, people tend to see him as the pioneer of Chinese realist painting: does he really deserve this title or is it rather a simplification?

As that time as nowadays, people tend to see him as the pioneer of Chinese realist painting: does he really deserve this title or is it rather a simplification?
- Xu Beihong's times were particularly favourable to a reform of Chinese painting towards more realism
- The revolutionary synthesis of Xu Beihong
- If Xu Beihong can be recognized as the pioneer of Chinese realistic painting, it is probably due to his career as an Academician and Theorist

When approaching this assignment, the second topic attracted us given its interest and the challenges it represents. We wanted to study a successful and well known company, constantly looking for new markets and offering new variants of known devices, to find out what a wrong Marketing-mix consists of for a global company promoting global products. In this way, and without hesitations, Nokia seemed to be relevant in this particular case. Indeed, the example of the famous N-Gage strokes our mind and could be linked with the word failure. The N-Gage began as a concept when Nokia noticed that more gamers were carrying a Nintendo Game Boy and cell phone simultaneously.
In order to argue why the giant mobile phone manufacturer failed to produce a multi-purpose device -encompassing the portable gaming-console and the phones function- has failed, we decided to contrast it with the success of the mobile phone called the N-70. The Nokia N-series such as the N-70 model has greatly contributed to the success lately as Jormal Ollila points out:
I am delighted that our strategy to target new mobile communications market segments is working well, as evidenced by the success of the Nokia N-70 multimedia device: the highest revenue generator for Nokia this quarter and the worlds number one selling WCDMA device
However, it is important to introduce in a first part a history of Nokia and point out key numbers dealing with its industry. Finally, in order to illstrate the contrast, the 2 products will mainly be analyzed through the most relevant Ps which are the Product and the Price.

Marketing is often referred as the set of techniques by which a company makes consumers buy its products. However, marketing can also be seen as a wider activity, that includes selling ideas and services, that do not only fulfill indivudual needs but also organizational objectives. Paris 2012, as a candidate city to host the Olympic Games, is an example of such a product. For instance, Paris 2012 marketing objectives were to obtain public support by having the French people and the journalists share their enthusiasm, and eventually to convince the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to entrust the 2012 Games to their capital . Of course, the IOC members only made the final choice, but a strong popular adhesion could make a real difference
- Paris, a city to hold the Games
- The Games concept
- Sustainability and legacy
- Internal and external analysis
- Paris 2012, a concept to promote
- The rallying of all kinds of supporters
- Launching a promotion campaign to gain public support
- A multi-dimension lobbying
