Résumé :
The conflict that is currently occurring in darfur is one of the gravest and of the most disastrous the United Nations Organization (UNO) has to deal with. It's a very complex conflict to understand because of the diversity of its causes and of its explanations. It is also, therefore, and obviously, a very difficult issue to solve for the UNO. Moreover, the Security Council is divided on the Resolutions to take to bring the atrocities that are occurring there to an end, as idealist views have to deal with realist ones.
The diversity of the origins of the darfur's crisis will be presented in order to understand the complexity of this international issue and the difficulty to solve it. darfur is the theatre of atrocities that seem to come from another age. However, how can we define them: do they constitute "genocide" or are they less grave violations of human rights? Do the persecutions that are occurring there, organized or approved by the Islamist dictatorship of Sudan, are based on political, religious or racial reasons? Is darfur the first main conflict indirectly due to climatic changes? All these questions about the nature of this conflict will be treated in the first part of this essay. It will focus on the initial causes of the conflict and deal with the present barbaric acts that are committed there by militias with the approval and the support of the Sudanese government. It will aim to explain what the purpose of such human rights violations is and to give the different interpretations that can be given of this conflict.
Then, the place of darfur's conflict in the international order will be presented, as well as the big powers' behaviours toward it. Is it really seen as an important issue by the members of the UN Security Council (UNSC)? Do their behaviours correspond to realpolitik or do they analyze darfur's crisis through an idealist perspective based on their attachment to human rights and to the international law? Does Sudan play an important role on the geo-strategic plan, for example on the global fight against Islamist terrorism? Is darfur considered as a topic of emergency by international actors? All these issues will be presented in the second part of this essay.
