In late 2005 a federal judge barred a Pennsylvania public school from teaching intelligent design in its biology classes. The trial had taken six weeks and resulted in a resounding win for those who support the teaching of evolution in the classroom. The ruling was a tipping point for many in that debate between evolution and its possible alternatives, a debate that has been raging since before the 1925 Skopes Monkey Trial. Many see this debate as an encapsulation of a battle of cultural values and one that is a key sign of the direction of society as a whole. Indeed, very rarely do tempers flare higher than when questions come up regarding what to teach a nations children.

I think this is a question that most adults over the age of 25 ask themselves if they did not attend and complete college right after high school. I sit back nearly one year after finally finishing my degree and remember the multitude of times I asked myself that question. I can laugh now at the times I said yes, I do need a degree but could never put together the effort to do something about it. I can also laugh at those people who thought I would never finish. It is my belief that, no matter the sacrifice, no matter how much time you must invest, and no matter how long it might take you, it is ultimately beneficial and rewarding to attain your bachelors degree.

What does a high school diploma signify? Does it signify mastery of a specific subject set? An ability to succeed in college? An ability to obtain gainful employment? A high school diploma is a nationally accredited document, a document has benefits including, enabling a person to be eligible for federal financial aid and for entry level employment positions.Interestingly enough a high school diploma, although recognized nationally, does not have any national standards. Individual states set the requirements to earn a high school diploma.

Why does the United States have almost four times the rate of teen pregnancies as France? Almost nine times the teen pregnancy rates of the Netherlands?
Other nations have sexual education implemented in an effective manner within their school systems. France has implemented a mandatory sexual education curriculum that is taught in both private and public schools. The greatest emphasis is placed on middle school sex and health education. Reproduction is taught in biology and there are mandatory requirements, two hours in middle school and 30 to 40 hours in high school

The UK residents are well-recognized international travelers exploring different parts of the world including disease endemic regions like the Indian Sub-continent & the Africa. This pattern of travel makes them vulnerable to infectious diseases like malaria and diarrhea, which are communicable in nature impacting social, health and economic wellbeing of the population. These impacts may be minimized by administering appropriate pre-travel advice. The dynamics of international travel render the erstwhile travel advice practices ineffective very fast, creating a situation where up-to-date knowledge on the effectiveness of pre-travel advice is hardly available.

Comparison of Philosophy. Ideology and Theory
Philosophy, ideology, and theory are terms mentioned frequently in academic discussions. Their meanings are so intertwined, however, that one can easily confuse what term belongs in which context. In this paper, I will discuss the meanings of these terms, and how they relate and differ from one another.

The responsibilities of teachers include teaching effectively by considering the individual students needs in their classroom and using different instructional strategies as appropriate. In addition, teachers should be capable of organizing and connecting ideas and subjects. It is essential that teachers master the art of classroom management, as well as motivational and communication skills. The teacher should think about his or her students abilities when planning weekly lessons so that he or she may prepare materials and activities in accordance with his or her students abilities. While teachers are largely responsible for their students education, there are some aspects of education which are beyond the teachers capabilities. Parents expect teachers to make their children intelligent.

A country subjects itself to the hegemony of essentialism through its use of borders to define its geography and its attempts to effectively identify itself through the distillation of its dominant cultural characteristics. It subscribes to the notion of hierarchy through the resulting stagnation of quantification and demobilization of investment in the development and urbanization of a countrys geographic location. Every singularizing act is tied to essentialism through a relation to identity as an ultimate truth or an ultimate goal. Prior to World War II, countries subscribed to the shared language of identification: borders, history, geography and economic power, as well as a relation through dominant and subversive countries.

Universities and colleges in the United States have long been held legally responsible for their students, even though the circumstances surrounding this responsibility have evolved over time. The basis of this responsibility lies in the concept of in loco parentis, when a university takes the place of the parent in supervision of its students. (Hirshberg, 1994) While it might seem reasonable that universities are held liable for students on the immediate campus, several cases have argued before the courts that this liability and responsibility extends to off campus situations, even when the events that transpire are not sponsored by the institution, and may even be against school policy. (Hirshberg, 1994) Daniel Graney, Director of Substance Abuse Prevention Services at the University of Rhode Island, considers McClure vs. Fairfield University to be the landmark case that extended university responsibility off campus. Graney cites this case, as well as an incident that happened at the University of Rhode Island in the early 1990s, as having a great influence on university policy. These two cases affected both the universitys policy on alcohol, as well as its desire to become more involved with the behavior of students off campus.

In this paper I will discuss the study of sophism as a system of education in ancient Greece and the ways in which it impacted the inhabitants and the conflicts of the ancient Greek society. In the first part I will discuss the subject matters that sophists taught, the reasons why young aristocrats needed to study sophism to gain political success, and the ways in which sophists made those who they opposed politically vulnerable. In the second part, I will describe the ways in which the Athenian religion was altered by sophists. I will also go into depth on whether or not Socrates was a sophist and what his conception of oracles was. In the third part of the paper I will explain the alternative way of thinking that sophists offered in place of the traditional belief in omens and oracles. I will then discuss the differences between the decisions that Athens made about what to do with Mytilene and Melos. To answer these questions I will use the primary sources entitled History of the Peloponnesian War by Thucydides, The Last Days of Socrates by Plato, particularly the chapters in the Apology and on Crito, and The Rise and Fall of Athens: Nine Greek Lives by Plutarch, mainly the chapters on Pericles and Alcibiades.
