In todays environment of advanced medical practices and practitioners, it still amazes me that some doctors are so set in their ways that they are not willing to try alternative therapies for more debilitating conditions. When scientists can clone animals, cure diseases from newborn stem cells and put stints in major arteries to restore blood flow to vital areas, it would lead me to believe that most medical practitioners would be open to trying almost anything to help their patients.

Flannery OConnor was the unmitigated master of her particularly esoteric craft of assaulting the all-devouring gray spaces of the humanistic spectrum. To those who merely make a skeletal browsing of her work or simply are first time readers may find her to be unnaturally grotesque in her stark portrayal of the often heinously morally and socially contaminated characters featured in her stories. Nevertheless, her tough-minded short stories give staggering cultural and spiritual commentary when one takes heed of the profuse blend of the serious and ironic in her work. She does not in fact, stringently admonish the inherent faults of her characters but brings them to fruition in order to expose and enervate these faults with her belief in the rather morbid preternatural tool of grace. For this reason, the protagonists, or often times, jaded Christ figures in her works who seem the farthest from being deemed spiritually or socially good are the characters who are given redemption most frequently by those characters who are supposedly socially seamless. Although her writing is exponentially filled with her spiritual and cultural awareness, the mundane and dialectic styling of her prose allows for a very neutral and unbiased body of work. It is only when the reader regards the symbolism behind the seemingly blatant grotesqueries in her work that they begin to grasp the fundamental themes of hypocrisy, prejudice, and arrogance that are so thickly elucidated in each story.

All literary texts are both political and aesthetic. Words in and of themselves are innately sensual, inseparable from the emotions they evoke in a reader. They are also political, pieces of language steeped in history and theory. However, writers often plan toward one extreme, selecting their words either for contextual or libidinal value. Beyond a doubt, most first-world authors embrace the aesthetic foremost; in the West, reading has become an activity of leisure, performed for pleasure, not for knowledge. The beauty of these works is literally derived from their otherwise purposeless existence, a feature of aesthetic judgment that Immanuel Kant calls final without end (69). But this does not mean that the opposite is true of third-world texts: while the written word still has the power to give birth to revolution in these regions, non-Western authors are still concerned with the aesthetic value of literature. Nor do all first-world texts exist separate from the political world. It is only Western bias that leads individuals such as Fredric Jameson to believe that libidinal texts are solely a product of industrialized nations. Aesthetic techniques, the affects of wordplay and structure, do not ensure an aesthetically-pleasing text. There must be a relationship between form and context. As Christian Wiman states, form itself has no inherent political meaning, but that [does not] mean that a [writers] treatment of the form [cannot] give it a political meaning (212). If form itself can be given into a role within the realm of politics, then surely politics can become a thing of beauty. When aesthetics are manipulated into vehicles for the political message of the text, only then can those aesthetics be considered beautiful. Third-world writers, regardless of first-world opinion, write with both libidinal and political intentions, for they understand that aesthetic value depends on the innate harmony between context and form.

New York City epitomizes superiority. Being one of the most renowned cities in the world, it is placed upon a pedestal. People travel here from across the globe for the cuisine, nightlife, and immense culture just to name a few. Another main attribute of the Big Apple is its vast diversity and integration, which is a topic that people who do not live here are greatly misinformed about. While it is true that many different nationalities and races inhabit this city, obvious segregation is still evident. The above quote is from a poem entitled I Dont Hear America Singing in the South Bronx, in which Rodriquez-Montalyo writes about how hard it is to become successful coming from the South Bronx. She ends her poem by saying she is one of the few people who has had their voice heard growing up in such a racially segregated neighborhood. The heart of any problem can be found at its roots, so in the case of not becoming successful coming from a neighborhood such as the South Bronx, one can look at the flaws in the public education system. Children are growing up with a false sense of hope in certain neighborhoods, where only few prodigies make it out to be successful. Even though segregation has seemed to come to a legal end, this is not the case. In reality, children growing up in certain neighborhoods are not capable of affecting their own destiny and this segregation has an extreme negative impact on their lives.

In the dictionary, an affirmative Action is said to be an active effort to improve the employment or educational opportunities of members of minority groups or women.
Affirmative action has been the subject of increasing debate and tension in American society.
It is an attempt by the United States to amend a long history of racial and sexual discrimination. But these days it seems to incite a nations internal division.
Opponents of affirmative action say that the battle for equal rights is over, and that requiring quotas that favor one group over another is unpatriotic.
The people that defend it say that providing advantages for minorities and women is fair considering the discrimination those groups tolerated for years.
The debate has been more emotional than intellectual and has generated more tension.
Affirmative action promotes equality in the workplace in such areas as hiring, training or promotion. It also promotes equal employment opportunities for people who are disadvantaged due to race, religion, colour, disability, national or ethnic origin, sex .
Affirmative action programs are designed to improve the lot of people who have suffered as a result of past discrimination.

Prejudice in the Muslim world has been present since the earliest of times, but homophobia in current terms has magnified in Islam since the 1800s. Throughout its history, Islam has been generally tolerant of homosexuals, despite verses in the Koran condemning homosexual activity. Like most religious scriptures, these verses have equivocal interpretations, and many Muslims infer different messages from the text.
First, some scholars believe that homosexual men were not defined as "men" in the Koran, since they lacked attraction to women. Instead these men were considered eunuchs, and were allotted to tend to the women, since they would not be a threat to them. Therefore, some believe all the reference to sexual acts or sodomy between men refers to heterosexual men. While there are these questionable matters, all of the Middle Eastern countries' governments wield a strict and oppressive stance on homosexuality. All laws prohibit sexual relations between same sex individuals. While punishments and indictments vary from case to case and from country to country, there is no doubt that gays, lesbians, and transgenders live very risky and forbidden lives.
