America has (nearly) always been the destination of choice for the worlds migrants. Spanning an entire continent, the country has historically offered land, jobs, and tolerance to those who seek them. For South Americans especially, the United States had been attractive for its accessibility and welcoming nature, the latter thanks in large part to an American sense of shared interest and history for its other Western Hemisphere/ex-colonial brethren. Ecuadorians have come to the United States for many of the same reasons as other South American immigrants economics. Americas steady growth of demand for low-skilled jobs, particularly in the latter half of the century, has given Ecuadorians an easy in into the country, although this is not always the case, as we shall see (Gratton 580). The focus of this paper will be on those Ecuadorians who came to the United States between the late 1960s into the early 1980s, an era of turmoil both at home and in the U.S.

African American childrens literature is rich with significant themes and tropes that educators can effectively use to teach about important events, figures, and historical facts in a culturally sensitive way to a diverse classroom of students. It is extremely important that teachers have a thorough understanding of the particular tropes that they may choose to dissect and teach from a selection of African American Childrens Literature. In addition it is extremely important for educators to be familiar with African American history in order to appropriately relate the valuable ideals and themes from within the selected literature.

When the Treaty of Paris officially ended the American Revolution in 1783, the new American citizens were faced with the challenge of forming a system of government that was functional, well structured, and non-oppressive. Over the course of six years, the former colonies searched for a political identity, and finally ratified the Constitution of the United States in 1789. The Constitution sculpted the American government into a republic, where the power rested in the citizen body and a series of checks and balances protected them from the tyranny of any one man. George Washington took office as the first President of this new American republic in 1789, and from this moment until the end of James Madisons presidency in 1817, presidents attempted to understand and define the nature and shape of republicanism. Though each president attempted to define republicanism through different and unique methods, the ideal of creating an informed and educated citizen body was a common goal among the first four presidents, George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. The commonality of this aim suggests that the founding generation considered it an essential facet to the survival of the republic.

In October 1970, events took place in Canada that would draw the attention of the entire world. For the first time in its history as a country, terrorism would be brought right to the doorstep of the Canadian government by a radical left-wing organization called the Front de Libération du Québec (FLQ). In response to these events the government of Canada, under the leadership of Pierre Elliot Trudeau, invoked the War Measures Act for the first time ever during a period of peace. The debate rages about its effectiveness and whether or not the government was justified in putting it into action. Although the War Measures Act may not have been as effective in bringing a quick solution to the problem as it could have been, its enactment was justified because of the fact that this new violent revolutionary movement posed a direct and imminent threat to the state as well as its institutions. Increased terrorism in Quebec played a prominent role in the decision to use the War Measures Act.

The search for national character is one of the obsessive dead ends of Australian history (Alistair, 1997). Australians spent time searching for their national identity in the years following the 1901 Federation. The Great War posed exactly the opportunity Australia had been looking for. They were able to put their newly created Imperial forces to the test and to stand up as an independent nation alongside and against the most powerful countries in the world. The Battle of Gallipoli was the most significant battle in the creation of the Anzac legend for two reasons.

On August 1875, the state legislature passed an act creating 54 new counties. One of them was Andrews County. This act caused the break-up of Bexar County, one of the larger counties, which encompassed most of the Southern Plains and the Panhandle. Upon completion of this act, most of the smaller counties in the area were divided up into a completely remapped territory.
Andrews County, which is located in the southern portion of the High Plains. Andrews County is in addition located in The Permian Basin, as you can see on Fig 1.1.

The Spanish empire was one of the largest empires in history and its own personal rise to power would coincide with the transition of power from the Asian continent to the European world. As colonial possessions lead to unprecedented wealth and conflicts between Spain and other European nations escalated the ensuing friction would further anti-Spanish sentiment, this escalation in anti-Spanish sentiment would further lead to the creation of the Black Legend that has characterized history in regards to Spanish presence in colonial Latin America.

Latin American history is the story of on-and-off again exploitation; from being a colonial possession to a neo-colonial inferior. There have been very few periods in time that the continent has been able to develop without interference. By examining the origins and events that have occurred during Latin Americas history we see what 1970s and 80s intellectuals label the economic dependency theory at work, however upon critically analyzing the dependency theory we see certain flaws in both its content and solution to ending Latin American dependency.

Since the dawn of the human race, humans have recognized the need to work together in order to ensure their survival. This mindset allowed for the development of hunter gatherer societies which eventually evolved into fixed communities. Eventually these small irrigation based communities grew into what would be recognized today as ancient cities. Although much time has passed since the development of these first cities, they still have many of the same characteristics found in modern day societies. However, the term City is vague and must be examined before comparing ancient societies. Gordon Childe developed a checklist to help distinguish cities from simple towns. Population density, labor specialization, state-level organization and class systems are examples of important characteristics shared amongst all true cities (Childe, 1950).
