Résumé :
In this paper the author will provide an analyse of the mechanisms through which globalization, in the sense of increased foreign trade, high interdependence and increased capital flows, affects the develoment of the third world countries.
As an introduction, the dissertation shows what are the major changes that have been brought by the globalization of markets. Then, it focuses on the dilemma met by third world countries in their pace to economic development. The author will see that globalization can cause many difficulties for third world countries, but also it may open up opportunities. In this era of high commercial relations and links between nations, countries can adopt a variety of development policies. Therefore, the author will discuss and discern what are the key steps that a country has to follow in order to promote economic growth and sustainable development.
Since a few decades, the world has entered in a great trend of globalization, everything has gone faster due to the technological advances in transport, means of communication, new technologies and by the choice of developing countries to increase their investment abroad and by opening up to foreign trade and direct investment. For the first time, less-developed countries countries have been able to exploit the potential of their abundant labour to break into global markets for manufactured goods and services.
however, Economists were confident that liberalization of trade was the key to an economical success, that it would provide growth and wealth to the undeveloped countries. The globalisers predicted rapid development for Africa, Asia and Latin America, they even argued that division between 'developed' and 'developing' nations, 'First' and 'third' worlds would become less significant and eventually meaningless. however, today, in this context of globalization of the world economy, great differences have arisen between industrialized countries and developing countries.
In fact, among most of the 4.4 billion people living in Africa, Asia and Latin America life has become more difficult, experts have witnessed that the gap between the rich and the poor is getting wider and the middle class is disappearing. The United Nations development Programme (UNDP) estimates that more than 840 million people are undernourished, the great mass of them are living in countries of the third world. In addition, between 1995 and 1997, there were only 21 out of 147 third world countries that recorded an economic growth per capita higher than 3 percent a year. More unbelievable, the state of California has a gross domestic product (GDP) of equal value to the one of China and India combined. This configuration creates a two-tier economy, with of strong North/South disparities at every level of the society: social, economical, structural and cultural.
The aim of this essay is to analyse what globalization have brought to third world countries. In order to answer, the author will in the first part of the essay state in term of collection of evidences and datas what have changed in third world countries. Then, he will look at the complex environment of a developing country in order to find out what elements enable them to evolve positely. In addition, he will take the example of the textile industry in order to highlight the difficulties that are connected with the development of a developing country.
In order to put more realism in his work and researches, the writer has sent a questionnaire to a company established in China. The results show why less-developed countries have difficulties to achieve a sustainable development. The answers of the questionnaire makes the links between the problems encountered by third world countries and the solutions that have to be taken to achieve an economic growth.
Finally, the perspectives of development of a third world country are possible only through a combination of strategies. Thus, the writer will determine in the analysis what strategic solutions can be adopted by less developed countries to promote sustainable economic development and catch up with the developed world. In this part, the author wants to focus on the elements that are essential to the promotion of economic growth.
