Résumé :

Dear investors,
This report will provide you with factual information on the importance of investing in the Telecommunications industry in Russia.
Since 2006, the direct investments in Russia from external countries have increased a lot. It demonstrates that it is a strategic market in which the possibilities of development are significant. The total of FDI in Russia represents 25% of the GDP. Thus, Russia is situated in first position compared to BRICs countries and Ukraine, regarding the number of foreign investments in the country per habitant. Nowadays, Russia is a strategic partner and if you want to be an active competitor on the market you may want to invest in Russia.

A few points have to be highlighted regarding the main strengths of the market:
- Russia has a highly competitive mobile telephone industry, thanks to a healthy competition between the country's main operators - MTS, VimpelCom and MegaFon
- Large amounts of money are being invested into the country's telecoms sector, with operators looking to improve their services and networks
- High usage levels in the mobile sector are driving strong average revenue per user growth.

In addition to that, the market offers various opportunities, among which, there are:
- A huge scope for mobile growth in Russia's provincial areas, which unlike major cities such as Moscow and St Petersburg, are not yet at saturation point
- The commercial launch of 3G services will open up new growth opportunities in mobile market - mobile broadband services expected to be popular outside Moscow and St Petersburg especially, where fixed-line infrastructure is weak
- Internet access based on xDSL, Wi-Fi and WiMAX technology is being rapidly extended by the likes of Comstar, Golden Telecom and Summa Telecom, increasing the level of market competition.

The telecommunications industry is composed of the mobile market, the Fixed-line market as well as the Internet market. This report will particularly focus on the mobile market.
