Résumé :
In 2000-01, a National jewish Population Survey, which is realised once every ten years, found that the population of Jews in the U.S. today is 5.2 million (it was 5.5 million in 1990)
The main difficulty researchers faced when doing this survey was defining who is a Jew; they finally included all the people who either identified themselves as jewish, had a jewish parent or were raised as jewish and did not convert to another religion. If they had included every single person who had a jewish background, the total population counted would have rose to 6.9 million! But even the choice they made was not totally accurate since a recent survey by the jewish Studies Centre of CCNY concluded that half of the population they counted as jewish list their religion as "other" or "none."
