The past is past and the new is here to stay. No longer are we a society that goes to the store to pick up our newspapers each day, including those ever so popular Sunday papers with the coupons stuffed inside. But we are turning toward the internet for our news, and the newspapers publishers are following suit. They have realized that this new generation as a whole wants everything now and they want it in the easiest fashion possible. And the internet just happens to be the easiest way, being the cheapest for the publishers as well as convenient for their daily readers. Publishers can cash in on the additional revenue with the cheap costs of the internet. The old format for newspapers, using paper and ink, has been applied all through the past and is all that we have ever known. Never has a newspaper ventured out of that format- until now. Digital is all the rage and using the variety of the web, the possibilities appear endless in terms of providing a new and exciting paper. I believe that right now, were in a transitional faze, from the older version of papers to the new online versions.
- The past is past and the new is here to stay.
- The roots and history for newspapers go far back in time, because there has always been a hunger for current events and, in particular, political happenings.
- The first newspaper published in America was the Publick Occurrences which was first made available in Boston in the year 1690
- In today's society, newspapers, along with all types of mass media, are becoming less dependent on integrity then ever before.
- As online newspapers forge on, they are treading on water that has already been explored in some ways by other forms of media, such as high definition television, interactive computers, media centers and all
- Basically what it's saying is that by the year 2010, the positives that digital communication seem to hold is far greater then any other form of communication for us today and that we're able to do much more with much less

The short literary fiction Hunters in the Snow, written by Tobias Wolff, is an interesting story depicting the life of three men who embark on a hunting journey that none shall forget. The story brings to mind a time not to long ago that seems simpler yet more complex then our urbanized state of living. Hunters in the Snow is not simply a story written for the pure sake of entertainment purposes, but instead it is a literary form of fiction. Its written to show the reader something new and to teach us through fictional characters and scenes about the intricacies of life. More then that, the story delves into issues of morals and ethics, rights and wrongs- issues that are very real to us and provide dilemmas for the characters in the story. Hunters in the Snow is not only a fictional slice of life, but it is also a story written from and about the life of its author Tobias Wolff- including details from his past for us to examine.
- The short literary fiction Hunter's in the Snow, written by Tobias Wolff, is an interesting story depicting the life of three men who embark on a hunting journey that none shall forget
- The overall structure and plot of the story plays a part in how Wolff viewed his own life within the characters. It opens with a simple yet intriguing statement: 'Tub had been waiting for an hour in the falling snow?
- The story continues with the plot moving forward rather quickly and more evidence is found that may tie into Wolff's preferences for how the story should be written
- Near the end of the story some crazy things start happening that relate to Wolff's ability as a storyteller.
- The characters are unique individuals and have quite different outlooks on life but at the same time enjoy similar pursuits and are strangely alike.
- The author of Hunter's in the Snow, Tobias Wolff, had an interesting background that made an obvious impact on each of the stories that he wrote in his lifetime.
- Every character that Tobias Wolff creates seems to have a quality, or several that are also main qualities of Wolff himself.

The author of this book, Peter Hupalo, self-published his first book, Thinking Like An Entrepreneur in 1999, thus beginning his company, HCM Publishing. This book appears to be the second book he has self-published, though he does not mention how many books by other authors he has published. I found this book relatively educational in that I think it would be useful, though by no means comprehensive, for a new small publisher. It is very heavy on numbers, spending most of the book discussing how to make a profit, pricing, taxes, and accounting issues. Unfortunately, most of the non-number information is common sense and rather brief.
- The author of this book, Peter Hupalo, self-published his first book, Thinking Like An Entrepreneur in 1999, thus beginning his company, HCM Publishing
- The next section of the book is on marketing
- Hupalo is much more in his element in the next section, on book pricing
- In deciding on a price for your book, Hupalo writes, you should first estimate your gross profit margin to use as a guide
- The next section is on business structure and related tax issues.
- After a brief section on sales tax and use tax, Hupalo continues into tax deductions and inventory accounting
- Then, Hupalo goes back to inventory accounting to discuss two more methods
- The next-to-last section is on record keeping

Opening Nick Flynns first published book of poetry, Some Ether, is like peering through a textured window. While the colors and images are sharp, the objects and sentiments are distortedcandidates for unique interpretations. Flynns fragmented poetry reflects his confusion in coping with his mothers suicide. Many poetic devices illustrate his surging emotionsprimarily his use of line/stanza breaks and voice. The enjambment and variation in points of view emphasize Flynns belief that there is more than one way to interpret each poem.
- Because his mother's death occurred during his youth, many of his poems have childhood memories and quotations interwoven throughout
- In analyzing the selected poetry, it is essential to break down the pieces in two different manners'the first, examining the form
- In addition Flynn's use of syntax further conveys feelings of confusion as long sentences followed by questions are a common occurrence
- Another quality of Flynn's poetry is the way he shifts the voice he uses so often and effortlessly
- When examined on a less superficial level, the content of the selected pieces contains an abundance of poetic devices
- In order to discover an underlying theme to Flynn's poetry, it is essential to examine the selected poems as a group, in general
- While suicide is a serious issue, it is often cliché in literature.

The assignment states that language use in discourse communities functions (in part) to exclude others. While this is true in many cases, sometimes language use in discourse communities actually functions to include others. After all, the goal of any publication, be it a newspaper, a science journal, or a magazine, sets forth the goal of maximizing its readership, not excluding any potential subscribers. In attempts to include others, a publication must use non-exclusionist writing, so that a person who does not belong to the discourse community can easily digest and comprehend the writing.
- The purpose of the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) is to distribute information in the most simple and effective way possible
- We cannot summarize the intention or purpose of this collection as a whole without analyzing the purpose of several specific articles
- The goal of a publication is to maximize readership
- In our discussion of the WSJ and the style with which it targets its readers, we have been discussing the exceptions, the oddities of the writing, and mainly things that make it unique as a publication

Americas youth are becoming more and more involved with crime, while juvenile crime rates are skyrocketing. As these crime rates increase, a need for better and more proficient means to detain and rehabilitate youth is apparent. Juvenile boot camps were the solution that many professionals thought would be the best way to deal with this problem. As with all forms of incarceration and rehabilitation, which are employed by Americas criminal justice system, the effectiveness and methods of operation of juvenile boot camps have been questioned. The purpose of this research is to show that juvenile boot camps are not always effective and cost-efficient enough to be solely used to solve the problem of juvenile delinquency in America. Several studies will be used to demonstrate this idea. A few methods and ideas of improvement on the effectiveness of juvenile boot camps will be suggested.
- America's youth are becoming more and more involved with crime, while juvenile crime rates are skyrocketing
- As juvenile crime rates began increasing dramatically in 1978, new methods of detainment and rehabilitation were developed
- Boot camps are often acceptable to the public because they 'appear to be tough on crime,' while at the same time applying much-needed structure and education to the lives of adolescents?
- Numerous studies of adult and juvenile boot camps have shown that graduates do no better in terms of recidivism than offenders who were incarcerated or, in some cases, than those sentenced to regular probation supervision.
- Other evidence confirms this use of military structure.
- Evidence indicates that juveniles released from boot camps fare no better than their counterparts who are detained in more traditional correctional facilities
- Nearly every study conducted on the use of juvenile boot camps as an alternative method of punishment and rehabilitation for youthful offenders exhibits the same discouraging evidence toward their use

After the attacks of 9/11 on American freedom and on American soil, it was apparent that there was a need for better protection against terrorist attacks, and for the very freedom that we once cherished, and, to some extent, took for granted. The American government devised a plan to combat these problems and called it the USA PATRIOT ACT, which empowered our government officials with almost unconstitutional power. The purpose of this research is to show that the USA PATRIOT Act, while pure in thought, is full of corrupt methods for the government to pry into the personal lives of its people. Several references to debates and cases that have been brought forth to show that American freedom, privacy, and even foreign relations have been impeded upon will be discussed.

Journalists write feature stories for travel magazines to inform their audience of different vacation locations and to give them tips and advice on what activities to explore while on holiday. The main goal of journalists is to sell magazines by creating colorful and exciting descriptions of different destinations that entice readers to buy the magazine. Journalists writing for travel magazines have particular contextual constraints that must be observed to produce a successful article. Journalists need to write to a specific audience, which varies depending on the vacation destination described. It is beneficial if they also limit the length of the article to five to six pages (including illustrations); include photographs, illustrations, and graphics; and employ the use of local jargon in their article. By conforming to these constraints, travel magazine journalists are able to sell the idea of a dream vacation to the audience and in turn sell their magazine.
- Writing to the correct audience is essential to a successful feature article
- When it comes to format, feature stories in travel magazines typically run five to six pages including illustrations
- Other format features used are photographs, illustrations, and charts
- Another technique used by journalists writing for travel magazines is employing the native language of the vacation locals
