From the MSPCA website, I learned of various full-time job opportunities in the Boston area. I am interested in a few of these, and I believe I can contribute as much to the organization as the organization will contribute to me.
I am particularly interested in the Law Enforcement Department Dispatcher / Receptionist at the MSPCA headquarters. I am constantly seeking work that will never be monotonous and that will require me to be ever-changing and ever-adapting, and I feel this job would be perfect for me.

This is a compilation of prose poetry, which we think will appeal to readers, writers, and students of poetry. Though we did not publish it, the authors first book of poetry, a chapbook, did rather well. It sold over 400 copies through university bookstores, 300 through specialty poetry stores, 200 through traditional bookstores, 100 through the authors website, and 100 through various other markets, for a total of over 1100 books sold.

The sixteenth century, which set the stage for the Early Modern Period, was characterized by an influx of humanist ideals to England. The literature from this period takes new stances on issues that were not subjected to such intense scrutiny before. Thomas Mores Utopia envisions a world entirely transformed by radical changes in institutional arrangements. The court system continued to dominate politics in England, a world with which More was intimately familiar. It was an environment of relentless squabbling, deceit, favoritism, and economic exploitation. Outside the courtly surrounding of Mores peerage, William Shakespeare wrote plays and poetry that tackle salient issues of the period.

Aemilia Lanyer wrote Eves Apologie in Defense of Women in 1611 as a feminist tract within a larger work, Salve Deus Rex Judaeorum. Although spoken from an unusual view point, that of Pontius Pilates wife, the piece is principally about Eve of the Biblical creation story. About sixty years later, John Milton published Paradise Lost, an epic work that tells the creation story from the beginnings of heaven itself up to the point at which Adam and Eve are expelled from Eden. Eve, the first woman of Gods creation, is historically held responsible for mankinds fall from grace. Eves temptation and the resulting fall are at the heart of both works. Lanyer reinterprets the Biblical telling of the story, as does Milton; however, their depictions of Eve are quite different. Lanyer, writing as a female in a time of prevailing anti-feminist repression, chose to respond to classic misogynist arguments, creating an Eve who is good-hearted but ignorant; Milton, who chose not to directly address gender issues, instead presents a much more human Eve whose motivations and emotions are multifaceted. The social conditions surrounding Lanyer, including traditional notions that women are ignorant and emotional, necessitated a version of Eve that plays into such arguments, whereas Milton, as a man, is free to create a more complex character that equally represented womens value.

The epic is arguably the ultimate achievement in literature. Its grand scope and its demands on knowledge and language mastery set it singularly apart from other genres. Authors throughout the history of the written tradition have attempted to master the imposing scale and complexities of an epic work. Creating an epic, however, is no light task and requires compliance with general epic conventions.
The epic tradition began with the ancient Greeks. A poet called Homer is credited with The Odyssey and The Iliad, which set the standards for epics ever since. Roman authors followed many of the same devices, and the more modern examples have held with these precedents.

Famed Beat poet Alan Ginsberg was openly gay, a lifestyle decision largely frowned upon in the society in which the Beat generation grew up. However, such constraining standards were typical of the forces that artists like Ginsberg and his compatriots struggled against. The Beat generation was characterized by rebellion against what they saw as a moralizing and even paranoid American society. Ginsbergs poem America attacks these values in a scathing streaming-consciousness style. While America is not explicitly or even primarily about homosexual or queer issues, Ginsbergs own sexual identity is infused in the language and imagery of the poem, imbuing its politicized social commentary with a queer subtext.

Shakespeare may be a poet for the ages, but he was also a man of his times. In this modern era, judging an artist often seems to require asking: how much does he push against the standards of society? But this is a time long removed from Elizabethan England, an era when Puritans ran London and playwrights and actors were not only forced from London proper but denied Christian burial. Under these conditions, we find that Shakespeare, while subversive in small, playful ways, ardently supported the social constructions of his time, and in fact exploited these universal concepts to develop theatrical situations. In both Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Nights Dream, interactions between social classes are limited to certain types of exchanges, based on the role each was expected play; tension rises whenever a character acts differently from his or her role; and by the end, all elements have returned to their natural position.

Of Shakespeares many plays, King Lear is certainly one of the most troubling and provoking. In comparison to the comedies and romances, it has a much darker setting and content; but even compared with other tragedies, it seems King Lear is confounded by its lack of a conclusive moral framework. This is demonstrated by its ambiguous ending and leads to an eternal question: does the play promote optimism or pessimism? The answer is tied to the issue of context, in that the plays setting is pre-Christian. However, in other plays, Shakespeare manipulates the conventions of form to allow optimism in a pagan world, and thus the answer to the largest question of the play turns out not to be derivable from the text alone. Thus, the choice to portray it one way or the other falls into the hands of a productions director.

Herman Melvilles iconic novel Moby-Dick contains in its 135 chapters dozens of symbolic images artfully connected and expanded. The power of the imagery lies in how the symbols reappear throughout, like a jugglers balls constantly in the air. These range from lofty literary and Biblical allusions to simple words with archetypal associations. One such simple word is hammer.
While a hammer seems an everyday object, it has some distinctive qualities. It is widely considered the oldest type of tool, its use possibly pre-dating Neanderthals; the basic design has bred thousands of variations for uses ranging from tiny mechanical parts to lethal war-hammers; and it has been purposefully imbued with symbolic meaning by its adoption in Communist flags and artwork. Hence, global associations with work, labor, death, and progress.

There are two main things that are evident in this work. The first is that the concept of diaspora does not only have meaning in the African context, but in other regions as well. The second is that to study a people or a culture, one needs to trace the diasporic movements.
About ten thousand years ago, Asians settled in the Americas and the Caribbean islands. The Jewish diaspora, one that is two thousand years old, is also one of great study. The Muslim ethnicity was also spread widely across different continents. The term diaspora does not target one, single movement of African folk, it has more to do with the collective way in which the group has shifted. The author talks about five major diasporic events that happened in Africa.
