Nowadays, this trend has first reached the industrial area but as well as the goods production and services. For instance, public hospitals have to go through a certification step which appraises the level of provided services in order to assure users a minimal quality level.
The client's profile has also changed. His/her buying power increases, by improving his/her standard of living. Due to sociological phenomena, this trend has led regarding consumption to a greater demand however more customized and more diversified. This profile has turned to be much more demanding in terms of information, choice and quality.
In the meantime, the competition has become more significant. Around the 70s', the "taylorian organization" which was established for a uniform production, doesn't correspond to the diversification of the demand. The « One best WAY » organization has actually reached its own limits while we are viewing a transformation of markets with the globalization and the increased flexibility.
Regarding this economic environment and the technological evolution, changes must happen: modernization of the working tool, costs reduction, optimization of the stocks management, constant improvement of the quality and the distribution chain, among some in which management shall show its performance so as the enterprise be competitive or simply survive.
The technological evolution is by far a turning point of changes which have been going on for the last two decades.

The fabrication is computer-assisted, thus allowing the self-organization, self-diagnostic of failures as well as self-repairing. We can also notice through this breakthrough a significant « boom » of communication systems. In fact, the electronic computerized management has brought a real change regarding information analysis practised by enterprises which used to communicate by phone. The ascension of this telecommunication network keeps on with the digitization, creation of computer networks (intranet for instance) but mainly the internet which will drastically change the operations management within the enterprise.
