Nowadays, thanks to the China's development, French businessmen are more and more interested by importation in this country. It could be an advantage to set up subsidiaries in China, for example. Even if French people are considered as reliable persons by Chinese people, French have to adapt themselves to the Chinese's culture when they are about to negotiate with them. They have to find a good way to approach them not to shock them.
When foreigner businessmen with different cultures, different languages, different habits, and different values,... negotiate together, they must make a mixture with both cultures to create a good environment. It will facilitate the process of negotiation and people will be more comfortable.
Before meeting your discussion partner, you have to get in touch with this person. In China, you must follow a strict protocol.
Indeed you are expected to write and send an official letter in English to the chairman of your partner company and you must be a lot polite. Chinese are very attached to these two criterions: hierarchy and politeness, particularly in companies.
