Résumé :

obesity is a cost for both the developed and developing countries. Most significantly, obesity accounts for 58% of the global burden of diabetes. obesity is also linked to an increased of heart disease, stroke, certain kinds of cancer and other physical ailments ranging from sleep apnea to infertility. The reduction in life expectancy is greater in the most severely obese, among those for whom obesity developed at an early stage in life and among obese smokers. But obesity also generates impairment in quality of life and this disease has frequently been ignored by most health professionals and policy makers. The World Health Report 2002 estimated that more than 2.5 million deaths annually are weight related and forecast this could rise to 5 million by 2020. Deaths directly related to obesity have been estimated at 320,000 a year in Europe and more than 300,000 in the USA in 2001.
There are many reasons why we are getting fatter, like food habits and the lack of activities. Meanwhile the obesity epidemic is now a serious problem of society and the solution must be strong so as to eradicate this scourge
