Résumé :

After the fall of communism in the early 90's, russia was transformed deeply into the image of their rival enemy.
USSR collapsed and with it, the whole communist ideology around the globe. This implosion provoked that many of the countries that were attached to the whole, where then left by themselves. russia by then became so weak and unstable that it was not even able to insure her role as regional power. It is essential to remember communism in order to understand modern russia. Even though some of her autocratic vices in the management of politics go back to the Tsarist eras of the Empire it once was. This notion of empire was never forgotten by Russian rulers, who always were driven by the impulse of reasoning in terms of greatness of the Mother-russia.
putin is in this sense, not very different from his predecessors, in the way he is guided by one illusion profoundly dyed in Russian pride and nationalism. Of course the reddish color of ideology has changed, fainted in its own failure, but russia is not capable of replacing it by any other. Provoking some of the old vices of proletarian dictatorship that still burn strong in Russian hearts in the sense that, this country, somehow always ends up with the same old party no matter what were the efforts to establish democratic values.
Indeed autocracy has become popular in russia, we only need to look at putin support stats to confirm that his people love him, and feel reassured when ruled by though men with metal related nicknames, or in our case a cold-ice, glacial gaze that speaks sometimes far better than many reports of the progressively darkening russia.
