The passage of Exodus 20:5 discusses the inheritance of the sins of the father laid upon the children, illustrating the idea that one generations legacy is often placed on the shoulders of its offspring. Children must learn the ways of the world, that is, become prepared to exist in whatever reality they may be born into. James Baldwins Notes of a Native Son is analogous to this biblical ideology. In his narrative, Baldwin attempts to find the reasoning behind his fathers ways to thereby discover an escape route for himself, because he wants anything but to become a man like his father: a man filled with misdirected anger.

Goodness is the only investment that never fails, once penned poet Henry David Thoreau. Such was a belief of the earliest followers of Christianity, most of whom were disrespected lower-class citizens of the Roman Empire. Christians proclaimed the existence of utopian life after death attainable through an altruistic approach to life on earth. Conversely, during the same period of time that Christianity was birthed, Roman citizens practicing their pagan religion and its various forms believed that life on earth was far more appealing than what would come after death and their actions imitated this philosophy

In The Divine Comedy, author Dante Alighieri illustrates Inferno, his interpretation of Hell, which is divided into nine distinct circles, each designated for a particular severity of sinner. Within the ninth and innermost circle resides Satan, forever trapped inside a mountain of ice, perpetually beating his wings and eternally devouring the body and soul of Judas the Iscariot. This special treatment is reserved for the man who exchanged Jesus Christ for some pocket-change, the man who Dante describes as the greatest betrayer in history.

My god, Im sick. Ive been used and you knew all the time. God Ill never know why you chose me. The rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar features a torn, confused Judas Iscariot contemplating his suicide shortly after betraying Jesus Christ. These lyrics make it seem like Judas played an instrumental role in Gods plan for humanity, an idea completely counter to Christian doctrine which teaches that Judas of Iscariot was the betrayer of Jesus Christ. However, the emergence of a newly translated ancient text reveals that these lyrics could be more accurate than people realize.

Despite being the most populous and regulated nation in Asia, China still does not have any official statistics on the number of homosexuals in the country. However, unofficial estimates indicate that there may be 20-40 million homosexuals currently living in China. Yet until recently, there was almost no mention of the word homosexual or any information on this topic, which is still considered a taboo in many parts of the country. The modern government, regardless of their many advances, still maintains a stoic silence akin to Communist-era China when it comes to gays and lesbians.

These days the general population has a plethora of choices as to where they get their news from. With media outlets owned by big business conglomerates, it can be hard to decide what the truth is and what stories have been tweaked to meet the audiences interest. Rupert Murdochs Fox News Channel carries the slogan We report. You Decide., but a majority of the time I feel as if they have already made my decision for me. With so much red herring news out there, the population must make a decision on how they get their news. This goal of this paper is to find out what elements influence the population on where they decide to get their information.

Same-sex marriage, the notion that two members of the same gender can be joined in a legally recognized union that is the civic basis of marriage, is a hot topic in the United States. The dispute over same-sex marriage has raged for years; the debate reached a fevered pitch after the 2004 presidential election, when voters in 11 states approved constitutional amendments [
] limiting marriage to one man and one woman. Four years later, the discourse that proponents and opponents of same-sex marriage employ has changed very little.

Throughout the histories of two of the worlds major religions, there has been immense effort to keep separate from one another by focusing on differences rather than similarities. In time Christianity became the oppressor of the religion that gave it life, merely because it could not or refused to comprehend Judaism, an attitude that has led to tragedies ranging from the pogroms conducted against Jews during the years of the Black Death, to the horror of the Holocaust. Is there a justification for anti-Semitism within the Christian religion? Or is this hatred based, as prejudices generally are, on ignorance and fear of what one does not identify with?

In the war waged between abortion-rights activists and anti-abortion protestors, the front lines are often in front of abortion clinics or medical facilities that provide abortions. Since the landmark Roe v. Wade decision in 1973, legal abortion in the United States has been one of the single most debated laws in recent memory. The issue, to many, is both personal and political. When issues of morality are put aside, the debate turns to anti-abortion protestors who historically picket abortion providers and harass pregnant women. While many forms of protest are allowed in this country, these protests have special circumstances to consider. For the purposes of this analysis, we will assume that the majority of abortion protests take place in front of abortion clinics.

Throughout time and across most historical records, people have been asked to have faith in some all-knowing, omnipotent deity in one form or another. Whether snake worship with human sacrifice or God in heaven above, we are all asked to have faith. Who is doing the asking? Well, just about everyone. From your neighbor next door to your boss at work and from the sidewalk preacher to the bicycle-riding advocates, there is always someone asking you to have faith. Some people are very subtle about the way they introduce their doctrine, others try to ram it down your throat. All in all, wherever you turn, someone is preaching about faith.
