The Black Stallion, Mr. Ed, My Friend Flicka, all reminders of the American icon that has been so closely tied to our past. Horses have served humans throughout our American History, carrying us on their backs through the Wild West, tiling our fields, pulling wagons and carriages, even carrying our mail. Their past has lived on with us, echoing in our memories, as we still keep horses to enrich our lives and provide companionship. Though these animals have never clearly been raised for human consumption, American horses have been killed to be used for human consumption to countries such as Japan, Belgium, France, and Italy. Race horses, show horses that just could not make the cut, wild horses, and family horses all have fallen prey to the horse slaughter industry.

Motivational processes vary across the lifespan. Children are motivated by different factors than older adults. In class we discussed the importance of motivating people to lead physically active lives beginning in childhood and continuing throughout older adulthood to maintain good health and longevity. As an aspiring cardiac rehabilitator, motivating older adults to lead active lives is vital in my field. Helping patients to initiate or regain physical activity in their lives will insure a faster and more successful recovery following cardiac surgery.

Athletes voluntarily agree to partake in sporting competitions. These contests require opponents to promise to play the game, at the same time, and under the same conditions.7 Performance enhancement substance use is a core ethical issue in sports today. Some athletes feel the use of steroids and other substances violate the equal conditions requirement for sport as well as good sportsmanship conduct, due to the unnatural enhancement they provide. Others feel due to the ubiquity of the drugs they are fair game and see no ethical infraction of equal conditions or sportsmanship by using them to enhance performance.

Exercise causes numerous physiological changes in the body. Body temperature increases during exercise because heat is generated in proportion to our need to produce energy. Sweat is a by product of the body heat generated and is sent to the surface of the skin to evaporate and serves as a cooling mechanism. Aerobic exercise leads to the regeneration of ATP which causes an increased need for oxygen and an increased production of carbon dioxide. These two gases must be delivered and removed for the muscles to function properly. Oxygen is brought into the lungs of the body via inhalation and transferred from the pulmonary circuit to the heart via hemoglobin. The oxygenated blood passes through the heart and out into the bodys organs. Some hemoglobin red blood cells deliver the oxygenated blood to skeletal muscle being contracted during exercise. The muscle uses the oxygen to regenerate ATP aerobically. This process also produces carbon dioxide as a waste product. The carbon dioxide diffuses into capillary blood and travels back up through the heart and into the pulmonary circuit where it is taken to the lungs and disposed of by exhalation.

While only a few sports manage to accede above and beyond expectations, so many sports struggle to become great a sporting event. This report will go over ways in which sports that struggle with revenue can increase their visibility and marketability in the sports world. There are many untapped markets out there such as the internet that need to be exploited a little more and can take a sport to another level. Other areas covered are athlete visibility, game structure and unique ways to advertise. I believe all sports can become better if the right people can get involved to give the sport a new outlook.

Sexual discrimination is problem that many athletes deal with regardless of their sex. Women more often deal with sexual discrimination, but even guys deal with this problem. Although sexual discrimination is still a problem today, it is not the same issue it used to be thanks to Title IX. Women are now given a lot more athletic opportunities and have most of the rights men have. Even with the improvements made to eliminate this problem, sexual discrimination is still an ongoing issue. The remainder of this paper is going to cover topics of what sexual discrimination, why it happens and cases of athletes being sexually discriminated against.
