total is present in 130 countries; it produces oil and gas in 30 countries and it employees in total about 95,000 persons. its turnover is about 153,8 billion euro in 2007. These shareholders are above all European (72%) or North American (26%). total has different types of products: oil, gas, but also wind or solar energies. These products appear under several brands such as total, Elf, Elan or AS 24. total has a will to be a transparent and open company to dialogue with a respect for others. The values of the firm are turned towards natural resources, protecting the environment and the adaptation of the operations to the own culture of each country.
total works above all in the energy industries and also a little bit in the chemical industry. total has corporate governance and business ethics, its last report dates of 2006. It is a based for this paper I decided to focus on the environment and the safety: two main topics above all after the accidents such as the Erika sinking or the AZF explosion and one month ago a new leak of petroleum in the estuary of Loire (France).

In a third part you will find the company responses about the different critics from stakeholders or commitments from total.
